History of the Voorhees Greenhouse
The Voorhees High School community used a greenhouse from its inception in 1976. It was an integral part of hands-on vocational programs and used by the school grounds crew through the early 1990's. Agriculture, bonsai and horticulture classes were all a part of the curriculum. After changes in the district and the county Polytech program, regular use of the greenhouse declined; maintenance of the greenhouse became more difficult, and it fell into disrepair.
Two years ago, Voorhees students initiated a rejuvenation of greenhouse use at the school. Research into renovating the existing greenhouse showed that it would be too costly. The technology and structure was too outdated to repair. In 2017, it was removed for the safety of the Voorhees community.
It is now the goal of the Education Foundation, Voorhees students and community to erect a new greenhouse that will be utilized for science classes, foods classes, peer leaders, and our multiple disabled programs.
